Typography

Overview

Typography is Builda's text personalisation system. It lets your customers add personalised text to products — from engraved names using custom character images to styled text using web fonts.

Typography supports two distinct modes, each designed for a different use case:

Type	Use Case	How It Works
Custom Font	Physical lettering — engraving, embossing, printed characters	Each character is an individual image mapped to an SKU in your ecommerce platform
Web Font	Digital text styling — on-screen personalisation previews	Uses a standard web font (uploaded or from a URL) rendered in a chosen colour

How Typography Fits Into Product Configuration

Typography is assigned to components within a product's configuration steps. When a customer reaches a personalisation step, they interact with the typography you've configured:

Key Concepts

• Typography — A font configuration (either Custom Font or Web Font) that defines how personalised text works for a component
• Character — A single letter/symbol with its own image and SKU, used in Custom Font typographies
• Character Set — A pre-made text block (e.g., a name, word, or phrase) with its own image and SKU
• Pricing Rules — For Custom Fonts, rules that determine the cost based on how many characters the customer uses
• Prefix — A short identifier prepended to SKUs for Custom Font characters
• SKU Linking — Each character and character set maps to a product in your ecommerce platform via its SKU/product code
